Dutch Charley Company, Inc runs niche cattle and cropping operations and performs custom crop production through its subsidiary, J & S Farm Services. We're based in Northeast Iowa.
Dutch Charley is owned by Ryan Jepsen and Kristine Jepsen, who spent 10 years building a regional grass-fed beef brand, growing sales from two beef to more than 4,000 annually.
Our work connected us to innovators across the agricultural community and gave us the opportunity to move further into production with the sale of the retail beef brand in 2015.
J & S Farm Services was formed in 2016 to perform custom row-crop and small grain production on conventional and organic farm land within 50 miles of our home operations.
The "J" stands for "Jepsen," and the "S" stands for Schullo -- representing our colleagues, Travis and Michelle Schullo, who moved with their four children to Northeast Iowa to work with Dutch Charley in 2015. Prior to relocating, the Schullos grew their multigenerational family dairy to 900 head and ran 2,000+ acres of crop ground in north-central Wisconsin.
Together, we are quick to embrace change, responsive to the evolving demands of the niche agricultural marketplace, and proud that the rural landscape is still a place to call home.
Where did the name come from?
Dutch Charley is a rural township and watershed in Cottonwood County, Minnesota, where founding partner Kristine Jepsen's family put down roots in the 1800s. Then as now, successful farming was a matter of adapting technologies and strategies as opportunities and times changed.
